Barron Mamiya and Carissa Moore Take Over Triple Crown Lead

by Dias

With big swells hitting the Hawaiian islands on week 3 of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, it was all about finding the gems and being in the right spot at the right time.

The three venues of the event came to life and the best surfers in the world were all up on it, wasting no time and putting in the work in order to get the clips.

Once the scores dropped, not surprisingly, two Hawaiian powerhouses made their way to the top of the leaderboard.

On the Men's side, Barron Mamiya dropped a few impressive scores, including a solid barrel at Pipe and some powerful turns at Haleiwa.

Crosby Colapinto, who raised eyebrows last season in the North Shore, continued his run by finding one of the best waves in the contest so far and winning the Vans Crown Clip title for week 3, with this Backdoor drainer:

Local charger Koa Smith also came in hot at Backdoor, pulling into a huge pit and dropping an almost perfect score of 28.5:

It's worth noting that Maui boys Billy Kemper and Imaikalani Devault are in pretty close distance in the rankings, sitting in second and third places at the moment.

John John Florence dropped all the way to the 5th spot, but remains a threat considering he only submitted two waves at Pipe so far.

Brother Nathan is also expected to rise up next week, since he has 6 waves still waiting to be scored, including this nug at Haleiwa:

On the Women's side, World Champ Carissa Moore catapulted her way into the top of the list and currently has a solid lead over the rest of the field. Carissa found some good waves at Haleiwa, a decent one at Sunset and she's now dropped scores for all three venues of the competition.

Also at Haleiwa, Brisa Hennessy dropped the second best score of the women's field so far, winning the Vans Crown Clip week 3 with this wave:

Local phenom and 2022 CT rookie Luana Silva got her VTC campaign started this week, drawing with some beautiful lines at Ali'i Beach Park as well:

North Shore's Coco Ho, Zoe Mcdougall, Moana Jones and Spain's Nadia Erostarbe make up the rest of the Top 5 at the moment, but they still have a lot to catch up to Carissa.

Week 4 started with back to back pumping swells and perfect conditions in the islands. Add an impeccable forecast to that, and you have a legit Triple Crown on hand. Stay tuned as more and more submissions come in this week.
